TAPS Image Specifications
Acceptable Graphic File Formats and Features
- TAPS accepts PS, EPS, PDF, PNG, JPG, EMF, and TIFF image file formats for graphics submission.
- Currently, TAPS does not accept drawing objects, such as in MS-Word documents. Drawing objects include shapes, diagrams, flowcharts, curves, lines, and WordArt. Please makes sure to convert these into any one of the above-mentioned image formats and then include it in your MS-Word submission document.
- Do not use the clipping/cropping feature in Word to show up parts of images.
- Graphic labels should be part of the images.
- Please remove any excess white space around the image edges.
- Make sure to provide high-resolution JPEG files for good quality output.
- Other file formats such as VSD, GIF, SVG, and BMP cannot be processed by TAPS.
Embedding Fonts and other Pre-requisites for Submitting a Vector Graphic File (Primarily for LaTeX source files)
- When supplying EPS, PS, or PDF files as graphics, please make sure to either convert all text to outlines or embed the fonts. Some fonts may be native only to your operating system. If the fonts are not embedded, parts of the graphic may be distorted or missing when opened on another computer and thus resulting in incorrect conversion of the images for XML/HTML of your paper.
- Try to include vector files and high-resolution images as they will improve the quality of your graphics in the final published article.
- The black text should be set as “overprint” in editable vector inputs.
General recommendations for size and resolution of images
- Graphics should be >300dpi
- Please note that black and white images should be supplied in grayscale.
- We recommend that graphics should be sized (the width and the height) according to the final layout and text width of your submission and whether you want it to span one column or two columns (if the layout of your submission is two columns).
- For multi-part figures, make sure to use the individual graphics in proportionate size rather than stretching and shrinking them to fit in the required width/height.
Please follow the below dimensions as per the requirements:
- acmsmall: 33 picas or 396 points or 5.5 inches
- acmlarge: 37.5 picas or 450 points or 6.25 inches
